INTRODUCTION TO THE IPCC

The IPCC is a Federal Statutory Body established as an independent oversight body for police conduct under the Independent Police Conduct Commission Act 2022 [Act 839]. Its purpose is to promote integrity, provide complaint and investigation mechanisms for handling misconduct, and recommend improvements for the welfare of police force members.

MISCONDUCT COMPLAINTS

Complaints that can be made to the IPCC are concerning the misconduct of police force members only.

COMPLAINT MANAGEMENT PROCESS

According to Section 24(1) of Act 839, all complaints must be made in writing, either by letter or email, and sent to the Commission through any of the following channels:

GENERAL

Yes. A complainant can lodge a complaint on behalf of another person/the affected person by providing complete details in writing.
